  • Building Capacity: How many people does the building allow?
The West Side is 120 with seating at the Theatre at 86 seats, and potential for additional seats to be added as overflow. The East Side is 120, but this requires all areas to be used to accommodate this size of a great. However, when combined, the total max capacity is reduced to 200 due to general building limitations. Parking for guests includes the Hive’s parking lot, streets, and the Front Runner station (approximately ½ block to the southeast of The Hive.
  • Loading Gear: Can I load lots of gear quickly? Can I load large equipment, set pieces, etc. Can we leave gear overnight for long-term bookings? How do I secure it?
The Hive has had many film crews load through the front doors on the east side of the building. You can also load from the west side. Larger requirements can be loaded through the deck into the rollup doors. Gear can be left overnight and The Hive works to provide a secure, but not guaranteed environment. This includes security cameras in select areas. Items needing maximum protection should be removed from The Hive.
  • Kitchen: Can food be prepared there or only heated/served? What are the limitations?
Food can be prepared with limitations. The Hive’s kitchen does not have a full stove. Moreover, it does not have a disposal. Therefore most food should be prepared outside of The Hive rather than being cooked here.
  • Children/Minors: Do you have child/youth safety policies and protocols?
The Hive Collaborative was once a fruit warehouse. As such, the floors in the building often slope and have necessitated building raised floors. Consequently, The Hive requires careful attention for children/minors and those with mobility challenges. While there are ramps for wheelchair access throughout much of the building, caution in movement is encouraged. Children/Minors should be monitored by appropriate adults.
  • Pets: Are pets allowed?
Certified service dogs are allowed in the building as needed by their owners. Other pets require approval before entry.
  • Availability: Is the studio available on my desired dates and times?
The Hive Collaborative’s website provides a calendar of events that provide general basis of availability. However, to formally schedule The Hive, an agreement for services along with potential deposits must be established to formally secure dates and times.
  • Pricing: What are the rates for renting the studio? Are there any additional fees?
The Hive Collaborative works diligently to keep pricing as affordable as possible. Pricing for certain events, such as theatre rentals, is relatively straightforward. However, as most other events have variables, The Hive Collaborative requests information on the event to provide tailored pricing. As such, The Hive Collaborative lists general principles of costs and then adjusts based on the needs of the renting party. In all cases, The Hive Collaborative works to meet the budgetary capacity of inquiring parties.
  • Facilities: What equipment and amenities are included in the rental? (e.g., lighting, cameras, audio equipment)
In principle, The Hive Collaborative provides its equipment to those using its facilities as part of the rental fee or at no additional cost. Setup of certain services such as video cameras and the like may have additional costs associated with the setup but not the equipment.
  • Size and Layout: What is the size of the studio? Can you provide a floor plan?
The Hive Collaborative’s website includes a general floor plan along with a virtual tour. The Hive’s approximate 10,000 square feet is divided into multiple areas. The largest two areas are The Theatre, which is approximately 2,000 square feet. The East Side with its wings, is approximately 2,500 square feet.
  • Location: Where is the studio located? Is it easily accessible?
The Hive Collaborative is located at 290 W. 600 S. and is part of Downtown Provo's farthest southern area. The Hive Collaborative is near the Front Runner station (approximately a five-minute walk) and greatly expands access via bus and train.
  • Parking: Is there parking available? Are there any fees for parking? How many spaces are available?
The Hive Collaborative has 27 direct parking spaces, with many parking areas outside the building, including street parking. Parking just south of the building is frequently used.
  • Cancellation Policy: What is your cancellation policy if I need to change or cancel my booking?
Cancellations are generally allowed depending on the timing of the cancellation. These are specified in our agreement. Changes are allowed when calendars accommodate the change.
  • Insurance: Do I need to provide insurance for my production?
The Hive Collaborative strongly encourages events to carry insurance for their production as The Hive Collaborative does not guarantee a production’s equipment during production. Other insurance may be required by The Hive Collaborative depending on the nature of the event.
  • Technical Support: Is technical support available during my rental period?
The Hive Collaborative may be available for technical support during the rental period. Depending on the type of request, additional charges for services may be required. These are generally part of the agreement and are usually limited to formalized technical efforts rather than isolated requests.
  • Restrictions: Are there any restrictions on the type of content I create at the Hive (Ex. Policies on Content that is Pornographic, Violent, Political, Activist, Religious, etc.)?
The Hive Collaborative does seek not prescribe content requirements, but does reserve the right to refuse content that does not fit with the framework of The Hive Collaborative. The Hive Collaborative requests information on the nature of events held to understand the content’s target market. Events aimed at adults must be presented as such to patrons. Moreover, The Hive Collaborative may require that information in promotional materials include specific language to ensure that audience members are aware of the content.
  • Noise Levels: Are there any concerns we should have about noise or interruptions from outside or within the studio?
The Hive Collaborative is located near train tracks, which are used throughout the day and night. As such, there are periodic noises from trains, which can include horns and trains stopping suddenly making loud crunching sounds. However, this is part of The Hive Collaborative’s charm. Other more normal sounds such as A/C equipment, lights, etc. are part of The Hive Collaborative. Events requiring sound limitations should notify of their needs, which The Hive Collaborative personnel will endeavor to respect and work to provide.
  • Hours/Access Times: What are the studio’s access times? Are there any after-hours fees?
The Hive Collaborative has capacity for 24/7 operations through automated door locks. However, in general, access must be coordinated. Fees for after hours, if any, will be based on project needs and Hive requirements.
  • Liability: What happens if equipment belonging to the Hive is damaged during my rental? What if someone gets injured at the Hive?
The Hive Collaborative maintains insurance for its equipment. However, damage cause by outside parties is expected to replace damaged items or work out reimbursement for damages. Safety in all productions is a focus of The Hive Collaborative, but we recognize that accidents do happen. All claims for injury will be directed to the Production’s insurance policy.
  • Food and Drinks: Are outside food and beverages allowed into the studio?
Food and drinks brought into The Hive Collaborative by outside parties are allowed, in general, but should be coordinated with The Hive Collaborative personnel. Craft services should adhere to industry requirements. Alcohol is restricted unless coordinated with The Hive Collaborative, the City of Provo, and administered by a licensed individual (i.e., licensed bartender).
